Does Ubuntu take advantage of AMD multi-core (6/8) architectures?

I have an AMD2+ 6-Core 1075T CPU. I know that Windows lags far behind in utilizing these architectures, so the difference between a 4-core and 8 core is nil.
What specifically in Ubuntu takes advantage of these multi-core architectures?
