how do I install latest ubuntu release

I'm not able to download the updated versions of ubuntu or firefox

Then how can you get an 'updated version' if you have the latest version?

If you open a terminal and run:

lsb_release -a; uname -a

What is output?

Press CTRL+ALT+T or you can search for the app in dash.

If you are not familiar with using Terminal follow these instructions:

Press CTRL+ALT+T as Andrew said and the Terminal screen will show up or

Go to top left corner of the desktop and press the Ubuntu symbol in the Dash Home

This will get you a blank screen called the Terminal screen then copy these words

 lsb_release -a; uname -a

...and you will get information about your computer. Look for Release numbers and Codename and send them here to Andrew for his help.
