unable 2 load on start up didnt finish update

Asked by shawna Coen on 2012-11-17

Ubuntu OS asked to do an update on the OS, I accepted but my battery died before it completed installation. I tried 2 restart my laptop after plugging it in and it gets to the screen of Ubuntu with the bar loading below it and will go no further. I would completely load a new OS but I have important information on my laptop I can't aaffordto lose. What do I do? If I make a backup disk will it load properly from it?

Why are you running updates on battery power?? It causes issues like this. In future PLEASE only do upgrades on mains power. It saves the community a lot of time and effort having to dig you out of something that is so easily avoidable.

If you boot to root recovery mode and run:

sudo fuser -vki /var/lib/dpkg/lock;sudo dpkg --configure -a; sudo apt-get -f install

Hi ,

during PC boot , hold down [SHIFT] key to load the grub menu. From there select the "Recovery Mode" and from the options select first "Network" (to esabilish a network connection , BE AWARE is better to pluged in via Ethernet , NOT Wifi) and then click
"Dpkg Repair Broken Packages" .
I think this should fix your problem.

Thanks
