Issues since upgrade to 12.10 - How to roll-back?/Fix

Asked by Alanbas

Hi, Since the upgrade, I have lost the shortcut bar down side of window and lost the icons across the top.

Also each window has lost the Minimize, Maximize, and Close buttons.

I also have start up issues, but feel that my Grubb loader needs updating.

Is there an easy fix to bring back the missing items, or can I roll back to 12.04 without loosing things?

The only way to roll-back is re-installing. There is no downgrade thing as far as I know.

Copy your important data to an external HDD and re-install.

Alternatively you can try these commands from terminal , to reset compiz & unity settings , may help.

~$ sudo apt-get install dconf-tools
~$ dconf reset -f /org/compiz/
~$ setsid unity

If above not help , then try another set of commands , will reset ALL your settings (even wallpaper).

~$ rm -rf .compiz* .gconf* .config/dconf/ .config/compiz*
~$ sudo reboot

Thanks

You must reinstall to get the old version. I recommend you clean install Quantal first. Very often you will find upgrades cause issues.

You can restore your user data from your backups, this will ensure you don't lose things.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Alanbas for more information if necessary.
