Ubuntu 11.04 is showing "release end of life" message in Nov 2012

Asked by m t sharp

Ubuntu 11.04 is showing "release end of life" message in Nov 2012. According to the web site 11.04 should continue to have updates for three years (see http://www.ubuntu.com/releaseendoflife). Why is this happening on my personal machine as well as 30 machines at my work place? Updates have been done regularly.

When I ran "ubuntu-support-status" I got following response:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/ubuntu-support-status", line 105, in <module>
    (still_supported, support_str) = get_maintenance_status(cache, pkg.name, support_tag)
  File "/usr/bin/ubuntu-support-status", line 37, in get_maintenance_status
    raise Exception("No date tag found")
Exception: No date tag found

I have screen shots of the messages in question, but no way to upload in the posting.

Hi ,

please see here about Ubuntu supported and unsupported (EOL) releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Ubuntu 11.04 is not LTS version. Supported for 18 months from the released day. Now is EOL.

If you want LTS version download 12.04 LTS , supported until April 2017. (5 years from release date).

Thanks

I suggest a clean install, then restore user data from backup
