Upgrading from 12.04 to 12.10

Asked by Earl Porter

I used Update Manager to install all updates to Ubuntu 12.04. Then I ran a Check which said I was up to date. I expected to see the notice that 12.10 was available and could then Update to it but no indication was displayed. What can I do to update 12.04 to 12.10?

That is exactly what I did, but I don't get an update notification message
as the tutorial shows.

Try:

sudo apt-get install update-manager-core
gksudo gedit /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades

Change:
Prompt=lts

To:
Prompt=normal

Save the new file, close gedit then run:
sudo do-release-upgrade

Should do it :)

It sure did! Saw a couple of Err messages flash by, but they had something to do with ---Translation en --- I think.
Everything seems okay after the reboot although a program error'ed un-expectantly and a report was sent. Relaunched and things seem normal.
