How to upgrade to ubuntu 12.04 from 9.10 using an ubuntu12.04 iso file?

You cant update from 9.10 to 12.04 in one go. But you can backup your data install 12.04 then restore your data from the backups.

I would recommend this as a lot has changed between the two versions and would require many updates

Step 1.

Backup your data to an external drive, CDs or DVDs

Step 2.

Make sure you have the 12.04.1 iso file available here:
http://releases.ubuntu.com/12.04/

Check the MD5sum to make sure the download was not corrupted. Burn the CD as slowly as you can to minimise risk of errors.

Boot from the CD. Before you install run from CD make sure everything works then do a full install.
