How to upgrade to 12.04 - not offered w/Upgrade Man.

Asked by Mortie Smith

I would like to upgrade from Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04, but it is not offered when I run Update Manager. I tried doing it from the terminal, but after an hour of downloading files it rejected the upgrade. I considered installing 12.04 from a DVD, but would like to keep applications and data I have now.

Hi ,

you can copy somewhere else (safe) your personal data and install the 12.04.1 from the beginning. Applications of course will be vanish.

If you want to upgrade via update-manager , then close all other applications and remove all external PPAs (if you added) .

You can remove ext. PPAs from Update Manager > Settings > Other Software.

Then close update manager and open a terminal and write

sudo do-release-upgrade

and good luck.

Thanks
