Security-updates without password since 12.04.1

Asked by Vera Schmidt

Since I updated my Ubuntu to 12.04.1 LTS sometimes I get Update packages that install without asking for password - f.e. a minute ago an installation/update of 3 security packages among them the GNU privacy gard. With 10.04. LTS updates always needed an authentification.
Is that correct?

This seems to be the default behaviour now.

You can't install new software without entering your password but for software that has been installed from official repositories security updates are automatic and d not need a password.

If you use gksudo then you get a grace period of 15 minutes which you will not be asked for your password again. This, coupled with Piolkit will mean this can happen
