upgrade 10.04 to 12.04

currently i use ubuntu 10.04 LTS version, i would like to upgrade it to 12.04 version what should i do. I had already downloaded 12.04 version from the website and i have saved it in the desktop, i have also installed the software. but still my version is retained as 10.04 and not upgraded to 12.04. what should i do help me pls

"Note that if you're upgrading from 10.04 LTS, do-release-upgrade will complain "No new release found" until 12.04.1 is released. To force an upgrade, use the -d option"
