Update manager will not open when I click on icon
Most of the time, when Update Manager has updates to be applied, it will not open when I click on the icon. I can check for updates by right clicking on the icon, and I can apply the updates likewise. But I cannot see the screen that shows me what will be updated before I apply them. The tiny triangle pointer on the left side of the icon appears to be light blue.
I am running 12.04. It was installed from the ISO (not upgraded).

The problem is with the Update Manager - the icon that only shows up when there are updates to apply, and it is still a problem.

Then press SuperL (aka 'Windows key') and search for software center. Is it ok?

Software Centre works fine (and I didn't have any problems with it before).

So where is the issue, updates and installs are smooth and software centre opens ok

This issue is that a simple left click on the Update Manager icon does not open the Update Manager. I can right click on the icon, and use the options of checking for more updates, or of applying the updates. But I can't see the updates until they have been applied (by using the history function on the Software Centre).
