The package information was last updated 5 days ago in update-manager is not being updated itself?

Asked by Radar

This happened after I ran update-manager while my DSL modem input was disconnected before a lightning storm and I had forgotten to reconnect it afterwards.

I missed whatever the error message was and then reconnected and ran update-manager again and it seems to detect and install updates ok but the "see summary" keeps counting up?

I tried reinstalling the "update" packages in Synaptic Package Manager but no joy.

What other packages/programs control this portion of update-manager and can they be reinstalled?

Thank you all for your time and patience. :)

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

Hello,

I'm also receiving this error when I try to reload in Synaptic Package Manager:

Thanks anyway actionparsnip but no joy.

I've been trying various permutations of this and the previous commands that ya'll supplied but no such luck.

I'm beginning to wonder if my installation of Ubuntu has been corrupted somehow and that my leaving the connection undone had nothing to do with the problems but was merely a conincidence?

The easy solution is for me to reinstall and start over even though this may be considered a copout?

Ubuntu is a lot easier to start over with than Windows (with appologies to Mr. Gates :)) and so that is what I shall do.

If or when the problem happens again, I'll be sure to pay attention to the initial error message and then perhaps we can go from there?

Thank you all for your time and assistance.
