installation problem on upgrade from 8.04 to Lucid Lynx

I am trying to upgrade to 10.04.03 from 8.04 on a PPC. I can only get part of the way through the second stage of the process before I get an error message telling me Release unable to find expected entry Partner/binary-packages in Meta-index file (Malformed release file?

how do I get past this if the only option I get is to cancel.

Disable the partner repo and any 3rd party PPAs you may have added.
