Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. You can also find a valid help posting your problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu's community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at http://askubuntu.com. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

Hi Hollyca,

It looks like the update manager is trying to search a PPA (personal package archive) that has been added to the system for updated packages, and it cannot connect to the server. You can find more information about PPAs here - https://help.launchpad.net/Packaging/PPA.

A quick check of the address of the PPA, http://ppa.launchpad.net/psyke83/ppa/ubuntu/dists/precise/main/source/Sources, yields the same result as you because the owner of that PPA, 'psyke83', has not released any new builds of the packages on that PPA for Ubuntu 12.04/precise. This is why your updates are failing, as one of the packages from the PPA is installed on your system. Don't worry, you won't lose any installed packages by removing it.

To remove it, open the Software Centre and go to Edit > Software Sources. Click on Other Software, and look for any entries that say psyke83 in the URL displayed (they should look similar to the ones mentioned in the bug report you filed.) Select them and choose "remove". Lather, rinse and repeat until all the 'psyke83' entries are gone.

Click close, and then try updating again. Should work this time, and if it doesn't let me know by replying here and I can work through some more things with you. Thanks!
