I can't upgrade quick enough the Ubuntu 11.04

Asked by Mumbi Kaniki

I was using Ubuntu 10.10 and now the system is asking to upgrade to 11.04 version.
Right now I am on Internet trying to upgrade for 7 hours. Is there a way I can speed-up the upgrade. it is becoming expensive for me now. I am using the internet Cafe. Please help

Mumbi

Are you being charged per download size or per time spent online? If by download size there is very little that could be done.
If by time spent online you should find a mirror near you and get an ISO of the latest Ubuntu through there. I would not reccomend bothering with an upgrade to the 11.04 release as you would just have to switch up again every 6 months to 11.10 and 12.04.

Simply do a fresh install of 12.04 is my suggestion. I do not know where you are from but try and find the closest mirror from here:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+cdmirrors

12.04 is an LTS and you would not have to upgrade it for the next 5 years

An upgrade that takes 7 hours is unreasonable, honestly, that seems to be an excruciatingly slow connection.
A fresh installation takes round about 20 min. when there is a liveCD, which has 700 mb and probably also takes hours to download.
Maybe contact local team member near you to get a liveCD.

However to receive regular updates internet connection should be sufficient too.

I am being charged per time spent. getting the live CD is a good option unfortunately, the Notebook has no CD-ROM. I am in Zambia, Central Africa and there is no local team to contact.

I am a new comer to Ubuntu but enjoying the experience! Thanx for the the response. I will try what you have suggested.

Can you help with this problem?
