updates only partialy installed in notebook, loked there

I downloaded updates to my dell mini and it quit updating and all I get now is a statement "not all updates can be installed" and to to run partial upgrade. I click on the partial upgrade button and it is gone and nothing happens. It does say that 12.04 is available, I am running 11.10 I haven't had any trouble with my desktop computer and am running 12.04 on it.
