During distribution update i got a power failure so the update crash

Asked by Scott Peters

was on my laptop and about 30 minutes into the update to 11.10.

I did not notice the AC was not plugged in and the battery died on me.

It will boot up but the graphics are such that it is unreadable.

I can get it to boot up and ask if I want to run in generic recovery mode or generic mode.

I tell it to go into recovery mode it goes through its test and then stops in terminal mode.

My question is now what do I need to do to recover fully and start the upgrade again (this time with AC securely in place)

In the Terminal mode try the following commands one-at-a-time:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get --fix-missing install
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get update

Does it work now? Do you get any error messages?

I will have to try tonight. I do not have the machine with me. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks
