Authentication Error Message when trying to upgrade to Ubuntu 11.04

When I try to upgrade my system to Ubuntu 11.04, I always get an error message stating:

Authentication failed.
Authenticating the upgrade failed. There may be a problem with the network or with the server.

This happens when the downloading of the release upgrade tool is almost complete.

Is there a way of fixing this?

Can you give the output of:

sudo apt-get update; lsb_release -a; uname -a

Highlight actionparsnip line starting with sudo. Right click and copy. Ctrl+Alt+t will bring up terminal. Paste sudo line in terminal. If it ask for password, type it in, and enter. You will not see anything, that is OK. Copy and paste what is showing in terminal here.

ok looks ok, run:

sudo apt-get install update-manager-core; gksudo gedit /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades

Change:
Prompt=lts
To:
Prompt=normal

If required, save the new file, close gedit and run:

sudo do-release-upgrade

Should then get you to Natty.

It's the same copy and paste method for:

sudo apt-get install update-manager-core; gksudo gedit /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades

and

sudo do-release-upgrade

the rest is manipulating a text file...
