updates draining internet data package

Asked by jim lothrop

Is there any possible way to not have to update every single little thing and still have a enjoyable expierience on the web? I am in a position where there are not multible internet services. I have a wireless broadband connection with a certain amount of data that i can afford. I recently switched from Windows XP to Ubuntu. I switched because of the software available, i have to update everything everyday it drains my data to where i cant watch video or download anything. And if you dont do the updates everything starts acting funny and you end up with over 200 MB needing to be downloaded to update. now i cant even do that. I have even tried one update at a time. i am being forced back to using windows where i never had a problem like this. i dont want to but its either that or internet that wont load a game already downloaded to a yahoo. account. can not deal can you help?

You can change update frequency using the "software sources" program. You can set it to daily, twice daily, weekly, fortnightly or never.

If you set it to never, you can just manually update when you find a suitable internet connection (cafe, friend's house, work etc)

Can you help with this problem?
