Hi, if you receive this error for the upgrade from jaunty to lucid is probably because jaunty is no longer supported.
Here is what system is now supported:

I suggest you to download Jaunty and install it manually, by this way you can bypass this error and you will not have problem with the upgrade.

Ubuntu has only ever allowed going from one version to the next or to the next LTS

So to get from "Jaunty" to "Lucid" you would need to go via "Karmic"

Both of these are quite old however and "Jaunty" is no longer supported.
I would recommend you take a full backup of your data and do a clean install overwriting your hard drive.

With "Lucid" if you want to maintain LTS or straight to "Oneiric" is you system meets the requirements.
