Oneiric Update manager configured without downloading 18 MB
I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 11.04 to 11.10 (Oneiric) using automatic update manager.
The other day the first time I invoked the Oneiric update manager it wanted to download
18.7 MB of security and recommended updates, but when I told it to update, I was not particularly bothered that it did not ask for a password like it used to (since Oneiric now asks for the password when I start the session) but I was alarmed that it did not start downloading the 18.7 MB which in the past would have taken quite a while. Instead it proceeded immediately to configure and then said I was up to date even though it seemed to bypass the download of 18.7 MB completely. I am a bit alarmed since there were security updates etc. Did it somehow already have the downloaded material ? Does it now update based on changes only which allow it to bypass downloading 18.7 MB ? This seems odd since it told me it was going to download 18.7 MB which should have taken a while but the configure was almost instantaneous. If this is in error, how do I correct the problem? It now thinks it has updated when it appears to me that it did not. Should I burn an Oneiric CD and re-install Oneiric?
