What is the difference in between the upgrade manager and doing it manually?

Asked by Gabriel

Hi All,

my update manager is broken, to I can't upgrade my system (see bug #876519). Can I do it the old fashioned way or will it break my system? What does the update manager do other than change the apt lists, update them, and run a dist-upgrade?

Thanks,
Gabriel

Of course you can do it from terminal and that way you will get info if something is wrong.

You can use CLI ways to upgrade or use Synaptic, there are no drawbacks to using the methods interchangeably. Its just a different method to the same end

Can you help with this problem?
