Ubuntu-11.10-alternate download

Asked by Margaret Mackintosh

I downloaded 'Ubuntu-11.10-alternate-i386.iso.torrent', a bit torrent selection cause by using this it is a much quicker download.

I actually did a 'Upgrade from Ubuntu10.04 to this one'. I was thinking that I would 'write it to disk' and then install it, which is pretty fast. But, since I did a 'Upgrade' it DID download fast but it is now 'uploading Ubuntu' at a very slow 'snail's pace'. Is there anyway that I can put it onto a DVD or some how get the 'upload speed' from 'idle' to a much faster speed? Please let me know as soon as possible as my laptop is tied up now with this upload. Asking all the people who can help with the 'peer' upload.

Upgrading from Lucid directly to Oneiric is not advised or supported. You need to upgrade to Maverick then to Natty then finally to Oneiric. You can do a clean install with Oneiric and get Oneiric straight out.

Thanks, but I don't have a clue to what you are talking about as I don't know much on different types of OS.

Lucid is the code name for Ubuntu 10.04 and is LTS (long term support)
Maverick is still Ubuntu but is version 10.10
Natty is also Ubuntu but at version 11.04
Oneiric is the latest stable release and is at version 11.10
Perfect is the development version of Ubuntu and is unreleased but it is the next LTS and will be verision 12.04

All of them are Ubuntu but you cannot leapfrog versions (upgrading from Lucid to Oneiric for example). The only 2 upgrade paths are from LTS to LTS (Lucid to Perfect) or to the next release in the case of non-LTS (Natty to Oneiric).

If you want to get Oneiric without having to upgrade to each subsequent release, you will need to wip Lucid out (format) then install Oneiric. Alternatively, if you can wait until April next year, you can upgrade directly from Lucid to Perfect and have the latest release in one jump without having to format

I deleted all the Ubuntu 11.10 partially downloads I had and last night downloaded a alternate bit torrent download 'Ubuntu-11.10-desktop-i386.iso.torrent'. It was a very fast download and it also uploaded without having to put it on a 'disk' and then installing from the DVD. Everything was 'saved'. I had Ubuntu10.04 LTS. Checked out lots of things and all is fine. So far I like the new version. So this question is solved with the new download.
