Update manager

after downloading updates it takes several minutes to install updates.currently using 11.04 this problem was also in previous versions.it is damn slow
unpacking replacing bluff bluff bluff
will this be fastened in 11.10 ?
and one more thing, if the system shuts down due to power failure or accidentally one cancels the updates while update manager downloading the updates then next time will it be resumed or update manager will download updates from start or what ?

You will more than likely need to boot to root recovery and run:

sudo apt-get -f install

To resume to update (assuming the power off hasn't damaged boot files and such and you can get that far). If power is an issue, I suggest you get a cheap UPS.

If you use Ext4 in Oneiric the updates should be faster, you can use apt-fast instead of apt-get to download files faster. If you add the mount option:

noatime

It will make disk access a little faster
