update manager not working in ubuntu 11.04
Hi everyone,
Thanks for your answers and support. Initially I may have posted the question in the wrong place. Here I go again. Ubuntu OS is on 2 different machines. One is a custom built tower. Ubuntu is the sole OS on that machine. The other is a Toshiba laptop running Windows Vista and Ubuntu. I tried using update manager to get my updates for Linux. Both machines told me that updates did not load and to check the internet connection. The desktop is connected via an ethernet cable and the laptop was tried via wireless and via ethernet without success. I was able to get to the internet without any problems. I am a newbie to Linux. I love it there is a learning curve for me but well worth the effort. The only reason I keep Windows is for some of the Windows programs I must use with other concerns. Thank you again for your help.

I run this script each time I get on the system to be sure I have the most recent updates. How can I be sure this is updating each time?

Not necessary to run the entire commands sequence, if you want use terminal to keep your system updated simply type:
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
you can also run the default gui app to update your system : update-manager
