Update on inspiron 910

Asked by Ruth Street

I have a Dell Inspiron 910 on 8.4. I want to upgrade but through update manager it says that my system is up to date. I have also tried selecting System> Administration> Software Sources and entering my password but there isn't an updates tab for me to adjust my settings. Please help!

I just had another look and I have got the update tab but my only options are to adjust how frequently I want to check for updates and nothing else. Thanks

Please read this:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Ubuntu 8.04 (desktop edition) is end of life since May 12, 2011. So no more updates or support for it.

Please install Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS, Ubuntu 10.10 or Ubuntu 11.04 for support.

Hi Mark, thanks for replying. I realise that 8.04 isn't supported now which is why I want to update but I don't know how to! My notebook (inspiron 910) wont let me through update or software sources.
Thanks

update manager should indicate there is a dist-upgrade you can perform, click on that and attempt to upgrade. I have seen many of these fail at this stage, so a fresh install may not be out of the question.

Can you help with this problem?
