Acidentily closed computer during an update

Asked by Andrew Clark

Hi, I am super new newbie to linux. I have been running a dual boot system now for about 2 months without any problems. Until I shut the lid of my computer during an update and now when I boot I get a whole lot of scary white writing on a black screen. Please help! The last few lines are as follows:

[ 4.031401] CR2: 0000000001bbf000
[ 4.033145] ---[end trace 36b60b87ad41e056]---

killed

mount: mounting /sys on /root/sys failed: No such file or directory
mount: mounting /proc on /root/proc failed: No such file or directory

Target filesystem doesn't have /sbin/init
No init found. Try passing init=bootarg

The Ubuntu install has been badly damaged, but your data is probably intact. I recommend booting from a LiveCD to recover any of your data that you might have (look in the home folder on the harddrive where Ubuntu is installed), then re-installing Ubuntu.

I was slowly comming to that eventuality. Its esier to do if someone else tells you its nessisary. I've learnt a lesson anyway. I wont give up on linux :) thanks
