Update manage not updating with error, not able to download all repository indexes

Asked by Javier Resendiz

Hi,

 Everytime update manager runs it loads updates then stops with errors.
I'vd read similiar errros but not sure if all can be fix with the same commands or not?

I found what program xfire is, it runs online thru wine one of my sons games. I just removed wine to remove xfire,
because it locks up everytime it runs.
But still no luck still can up with same errors after running update manager.
Can you help?

Errors;
Could not download all repository indexes

The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

these are the errors;

Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/nikko/gfire/ubuntu/dists/lucid/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz 404 Not Found
Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/user/ppa-name/ubuntu/dists/lucid/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz 404 Not Found
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Thanks,

If you check:
http://ppa.launchpad.net/

There is no nikko folder, looks like that ppa has been ceased. The 2nd error seems too generic to be a PPA. I suggest you comment them out

You can either open /etc/apt/sources.list and edit the relevant lines out, or you can use software centre and remove the repositories.

hey actionparsnip or can I call you Andrew?

Well I hope I understood you correctly I open /etc/apt/sources.list and edited the relevant lines out
meaning deleting them I hope that correct.
I ran update manager again it download 4 new updates only, updated 4 news.

I went into settings in the update manager in other software tab and also deleted the same error information from their also i hope this is correct?

I ran it a second time an then it started downling 81 from the repository but did not update anything after that it just closed, is this correct or is this an error? So I ran it a third time an then is started down loading 74 items and did the same thing just closed after that aslo. NOT sure if this is normal. Any advice?

thanks,
