It seems you somehow made the listed file corrupt, can you take a look at the file /etc/apt/sources.list and see what the contents is at line 55?

Please run 'gedit /etc/apt/sources.list', which will open the offending file in a text editor, and paste in the lines around line 55 so we can see what the configuration currently looks like.

Remember! The full command is: gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

arochester, that's only necessary if the file is to be edited; gedit will open a file read-only just fine.
