system says: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net

Asked by claudio inguaggiato

I tried to update the system using the update manager.
I had the reply:
Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/keepassx/ppa/ubuntu/dists/maverick/main/source/Sources.gz 404 Not Found

BUT my Internet connection works fine.

What could be the problem?

Many thanks, Claudio

The package has not been built for maverick. The PPA only extends up to Lucid.

The main repository however has a newer version, so there is no need to use the PPA.

in my poor opinion (I am not an expert) I can't understand mycae's answer. I launched a system utility (the update manager) and the update manager replied this way. It means that it's the update manager that internally called a out-of-date address. I am running Maverick so a system utility in Maverick SHOULD USE only up-to-date addresses.

Many thanks, Claudio

You have added a third party source, known as a "Personal package archive" (PPA), which is not part of the Maverick distribution, but is rather maintained by some person. This person uses ubuntu infrastructure to build and host their packages.

The third party PPA you have enabled does not provide packages for ubuntu maverick. The software database is extensible, and thus you can instruct it to use a PPA that is not well maintained, as is the case here.

You need to go to the software sources and disable this third party source.

Can you help with this problem?
