update from 9.10 Karmic to 10.04 LTS

Asked by Gabriele Ottino

Hi all,
I would like to update my Ubuntu Desktop 9.10 Karmic version to the 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) one. In the Ubuntu website they say that the upgrade must done following this procedure:
   1. Start System/Administration/Update Manager.
   2. Click the Check button to check for new updates.
   3. If there are any updates to install, use the Install Updates button to install them, and press Check again after that is complete.
   4. A message will appear informing you of the availability of the new release.
   5. Click Upgrade.
   6. Follow the on-screen instructions.
But following these instructions, a window appears into which the "Your System is Up-to-Date" message appears, and nothing appears about the possibility to update the current version to the 10.04 LTS.
How could I make this update?
I thank you a lot in advance for your attention.

Gabriele

When you run update-manager, at the top should be an upgrade button, but it may be to 10.10 rather than 10.04.
To change that:
In update manager, click on the Settings button, and under the update tab, in the lower part of the window is the Release upgrade pop-up list, select long term releases.

I already made this selection: when I looked at it, it was selected the "Normal Releases" options, and I changed it to the "Long Term Support Releases Only" option. However nothing happens if I close all the windows and I follow again the procedure described in the Ubuntu website.
What could I do? Am I wrong?

Run:

sudo apt-get install update-manager-core; gksudo gedit /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades

Make sure you see:
Prompt=normal

At the bottom (change if needed), save the new file and close gedit. Then run:

sudo apt-get clean; sudo do-release-upgrade

Should be ok.
