Unable to uprade from 8.04 LTS to 10.4 LTS

Keep getting a message regarding Open Office jre and dependencies. I tried to copy and pasted the message here, but lost it. So, sorry to be so inexact. I've tried on network and with an .ISO image. I've tried on network and with an .ISO image. I always get stopped and system restored.

try removing openoffice, upgrade to 10.04, then reinstall openoffice
