Is It Possible To Leapfrog Versions?

Asked by Conan Librarian

I have been experiencing problems with mouse control ever since I upgraded to version 10.10 from version 10.04. Since I did not have such problems with 10.04 I'm going to go back to that version with a clean install. I was wondering if, in order to upgrade to 11.04 (should I learn that it is relatively free of bugs), I would need to first install 10.10 then go on to 11.04? Or would it be possible to go directly from 10.04 to 11.04?

My configuration:

HP TouchSmart tx2-1020us
Processor: 4.00 GB (3.75 usable)
System type" 64-bit

Thank you.

Hi Conan,

Unless 11.04 is marked as an LTS release sometime between now and it's final release in April, it will not be possible to upgrade from 10.04 to 11.04. You will have to upgrade via 10.10. Perhaps the effect of the bugs you mentioned could be reduced by putting aside enough time to do both upgrades one after another. As soon as the upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 is complete, immediately begin the upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04.

When upgrading from one version of Ubuntu to another, you usually have to do so incrementally, without skipping versions. This is not the case with LTS (Long Term Support) releases. This is because these versions are aimed at businesses who'e needs differ from those of the consumer, since regular upgrades which result in broken functionality (such as the bugs you described) can result in extensive losses for the company.

you can always do a complete installation of version 11.04 when it comes out.

Can you help with this problem?
