update-manager package

I cant get updates or install software

When I go to update manager I get the following error message: 'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/security.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_maverick-security_universe_binary-i386_Packages, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'

I am also unable to install downloaded software or drivers, any help would be very much appreciated. Jason Kelly

Try disabling your security updates in Ubuntu and then run:

sudo apt-get update

in a Terminal window.
