update manager cannot update

i cannot get updates with update manager(ubuntu 10.04) .it don't show any error message.i tried to use the sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade but the same problem.when i type sudo apt-get update i get this

This is fine, the packages are held back because they are ready but a dependency they need is not ready. Once the dep is available, the other packages will be installed.

When you type:
dpkg -l rhythmbox

Is the output?
rhythmbox (0.12.8-0ubuntu3)

There is a reason why packages are held back.
According to changelog others are in proposed, which means pre-release state.
Just wait until it's tested and will be released into stable repos.

the problem is that are not downloaded others updates.when i use update manager i cannot select rhythmbox to update it

Kostas,

by menu you can ask update-Manager to install these "held-Back" programs:
(in U-10.04 the menu path is:)

<Applications>,... <System>,... <Update-Manager>,...
Now you can select to install these 4 packages.

Mostly these commands should do:

sudo apt-get update (retrieves the program dependencies from www)
sudo apt-get autoremove (removes old-version and not-use program)
sudo apt-get autoclean (removes not neccessairy installation files)
sudo apt-get upgrade (retrieve + install newer versions of programs)
