Ubuntu 10.10 upgrade froze during install

While upgrading from 10.4 to 10.10 the install froze after downloading files, during the install with 26 min. to go at 56kb/s.. Upgrade program stayed frozen for about 3 hrs. prior to me shutting down Ubuntu and opening Windows XP.

If your upgrade failed during the download, it's not too serious. You can probably start Ubuntu and resume the update. If it failed during the installation of all the new softwares, that could be more serious...

Did you try to reboot it?

The upgrade froze during installation. No luck with the reboot. Message on
trying to reboot, "The configuration defaults for GNOME power manger have
not been installed correctly." Sounds serious to me.

Did you try a recovery mode ? That's worth a try. If you can reboot in recovery mode, maybe it's possible to fix everything.

Thank you, I tried recovery mode which fixed the problem.

Great news ! As long as the recovery mode is working, you can fix pretty much anything. ;)
