how to stop packages auto update?

how to stop auto update in ubuntu, & kubuntu in all 8.04 & 10.04

There is an option in Synaptic settings for the repositories. There you can stop the automatic check for updates.

So what did you set ? No more update at all? And you still have the icon poping up ?

In System>Preferences>Startup Applications, disable the update notifier maybe ?

in the system - administration - software sources -update tab .
