Linux updates i must install kernel updates?

Asked by William Pabon

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with 2.6.35-14-generic kernel. I keep receiving requests from the Update Manager that I should install the following updates:

Linux-headers 2.6.32-24
Linux-headers 2.6.32-24-generic
Linux-image-2.6.32-24-generic
Linux-libc-dev
Linux-Maverick-source-2.6.35

Except the last one, the other packages apply to a different kernel than the one I have in my system. Am I right?. Please, advise If I should or should not install those. If it is not necessary to install, then tell me how to instruct the system not to ask me again about those packages. Thanks

Yes it will install a newer kernel with extra features and security fixes. You will have BOTH kernels installed after the install too so if the new one is bad you can reboot to the original one.
