Suppress Updates in Update Manager

Asked by Jez

Hi

How did I suppress Recommended Updates I do not need? My Update manager is showing lots of updates for Evolution which I don't use, as I use webmail instead. I have unchecked these optional updates but they keep appearing in update manager. how do I kill them once and for all?

you can uninstall evolution quite happily, you will not get bothered for updates for it.

sudo apt-get --purge remove evolution; sudo apt-get --purge autoremove

You should also read the list of installed packages which come with ubuntu and remove them. A default installcomes with a LOT of rubbish you will never use and can be removed to reduce space, increase speed and reduce updates.

Watch what you remove with evolution as gnome-panel has some evolution package as a dep so removing it will remove gnome-panel which you will most likely need.

Can you help with this problem?
