Ubuntu wants an upgrade but cannot find it

Asked by Mike Muratet

Rebooted after apt-get upgrade to find:

Your current Hardware Enablement Stack (HWE) is no longer supported
since 2014-08-07. Security updates for critical parts (kernel
and graphics stack) of your system are no longer available.

For more information, please see:
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/1204_HWE_EOL

To upgrade to a supported (or longer supported) configuration:

* Upgrade from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS by running:
sudo do-release-upgrade

OR

* Install a newer HWE version by running:
sudo apt-get install linux-generic-lts-trusty linux-image-generic-lts-trusty

and reboot your system.

No mail.

Tried the upgrade and got:

mmuratet@jenner:~$ sudo do-release-upgrade
[sudo] password for mmuratet:
Checking for a new Ubuntu release
No new release found

What gives?

Thanks

Mike

I tried the "OR" option

OR

* Install a newer HWE version by running:
sudo apt-get install linux-generic-lts-trusty linux-image-generic-lts-trusty

and reboot your system.

and it completed without error.

However, I still get the message about installation and reboot.

I suggest you report a bug. I've seen this before. Precise is still supported til April 2017

I have seen several messages that the command "sudo do-release-upgrade" does not find the release upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04 yet, but the command "sudo do-release-upgrade -p" usually works.

Can you help with this problem?
