Will unity 8 support a way to split the screen veritcally in 3 ways?

Asked by Ryan Stull

Hello,

I recently purchased an ultra-widescreen monitor and am using it with my ubuntu desktop.

I'd like to be able to easily split my screen side by side 3 ways, or maybe even 4 ways, but I cannot find any easy way to accomplish this with compiz, and I've had to resort to using wmctrl which only kind of works.

So my question is: Will unity 8 allow for this to be done? or if not, What would be necessary to change to make this happen?

I've also ask the question on stack overflow here:

but have not received the answer I am looking for yet.

Thanks.

You can do 4 using hot corners. Configuring Compiz to make the application a quarter of the size after dragging to a corner, then configuring each corner (plus hot key if you like) can allow you to "snap" applications to the corner like you do to the sides to get the window to occupy 50% of the screen on the side you dragged to.

Ok. that's good to know; but just to confirm, there will be no way to split it three way in Unity 8?

I don't know. I don't use Unity in any form and don't keep up with its features. It doesn't interest me. I've not used it since Natty but I do know it has have hot corners.

Can you help with this problem?
