Problem with 12.10 install

Asked by Ronald

Installed 12.10. Did not redo partition. Saved old settings and programs. After reboot it still looks like the same 12.04 LTS. Opened details in system settings and it still showing 12.04 LTS

I suggest you wipe the old install out and install a clean install of Trusty. It is LTS and supported til April 2019.

The install Ubuntu over Ubuntu will make a big mess of your system. It's not how Ubuntu is upgraded and is not advised.

You mean install 14.04LTS but not keep any of the old programs and settings.

You can make a backup of settings from your home folder as well as /etc

With the versions of applications being different you may find they don't work or cause crashes
