SIGSEGV in atk_object_get_n_accessible_childres()

Asked by EDEMPCO

I am experiencing a greater number of crashes, and freez-ups both within programs and especially with Unity.
The probem occurs frequently when clicking between menu items, but it also occurs as the menu is accessed. The only way around a menu crash is not to use the menu. Instead, use Alt-Tab to get to open windows.

Inside of programs, the freeze-up occurs when selecting something that comes up in a window. The window pops up, but there is nothing inside the window.

I have been watching for solutions, but have not encountered any. Bug Reports 863720, 913324, 980816, all seem to show a historical trail of similar problems. A new bug report, 1016737 from a different source showed again that there is a problem, but no fix.

Have I missed the solution? Have I misunderstood the Bug Reports? How can I help to fix this problem?

Have you tested your RAM using Memtest from Grub?

Using the system test while running, rather than GRUB, I got a disturbing report:
 memory/info FAILED Meminfo total: 3348364 kB DMI total: 4096000 kB Accuracy: 81.00 Memory totals not close enough

Does this mean I need to replace memory, or is there something else I need to adjust; something in BIOS?

It looks that way, if you have multiple sticks then power off the system and remove sticks in a logical manner to determine which sticks are bad. If you have only one stick then a simple swapout (again with the power off) will need to happen.
