Lost Net Manager in Kubuntu 13.10

Asked by Stanbar

Do you use VPN, or do you just log in and use the system? - I currently just log in and use the system. I have a VPN I subscribe to that I want to install & I would like to go mobile and get Wifi's when I am out. I am unable to log into my 4G phone or use a usb tether. Kubu LTS is awesome and I upgraded from that. What went wrong? or is 1310 not as good? What is the output of: ps -ef | grep network - stanbar@ubuntu:~$ ps -ef | grep network
root 1679 758 0 08:43 ? 00:00:00 /sbin/dhclient -d -sf /usr/lib/NetworkManager/nm-dhcp-client.action -pf /run/sendsigs.omit.d/network-manager.dhclient-wlan0.pid -lf /var/lib/NetworkManager/dhclient-8d72cad6-517a-4bf1-9bbe-01fed8267acb-wlan0.lease -cf /var/lib/NetworkManager/dhclient-wlan0.conf wlan0
stanbar 2150 2100 0 08:49 pts/1 00:00:00 grep --color=auto network
Then press ALT+F2 and run:

knetworkmanager

Or try with a hyphen:

knetwork-manager

stanbar@ubuntu:~$ knetworkmanager
knetworkmanager: command not found
stanbar@ubuntu:~$ knetwork-manager
knetwork-manager: command not found
stanbar@ubuntu:~$

Is there a fix? That is where I an. Do i wipe clean and reload

Did you upgrade from 12.04 to 13.10? Or did you upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10 to 13.04 to 13.10?

WOW, thanks a lot for this! Hey, is there a way that I can write zeros to my hard drive? I had to use Wubi because the ubuntu dvd wouldn't allow me to set up the dual boot. I had to go inside windows. That's because I had linux mint on that drive before and need to just ZERO out the whole drive...even if i have to let it run for days to do so.

If you make a fresh Ubuntu user and log in as that, is it ok there?

So I can uninstall Wubi (Kubuntu 13.10), but Ubuntu wants to wipe out windows when I install ubuntu, not install side by side. I'd like to write zeros to the drive, run the restore windows disc and then do a side by side Kubuntu 13.10 install. As it stands now, I can't get the windows restore disc to see the drive and Ubuntu wants to wipe windows. It's funny, I only need windows for 2 apps that I have to use 4 - 5 times a year.
