Unable To See Hard Drive On Desktop of Unbuntu 12.10..Should It be there?

Asked by Brad

I recently ran a partion using the Windows Installer in Windows. I installed Unbuntu 12.10 and runs perfectly. I noticed on the left side of the screen in Unbuntuvarious icons including my DVD drive.

Should my Hard Drive be shown there as well?

Otherwise how do I know how much space is left on my drive?

Thanks,
Brad

You can see how much space left with terminal or from "system monitor".

From terminal (open terminal with CTRL+ALT+T keys combo) and give this command

~$ df -Th

From "system monitor" , click on Dash (ubuntu icon up left in launcher) and write: system monitor

open it and you will see informations about your current system state.

In order to see the drive listed at the left bar (launcher) you have to mount the drive. Click the drive you want to mount and you will see it in the left bar (launcher).

Thanks

Hi NikTh,

Thanks for the reply.

I put df-Th in the command line and it states command not found.

Thanks.

There is an option for it in dconf-editor

Hi actionparsnip,

My dconf-editor is empty.

I don't know if this helps.

Should Linux be working properly even though I can't seem to find my hard drive?

Thanks.

I saved the windows launcher to my windows desktop. It was launched from there. The ubunto. Iso was burned to a dvd. Once the windows launcher portioned my drive, it gathered more info from my dvd drive.

When I was told to reboot, I did. I chose Ubunto at start up from me. Boot options and finished installation as told.

Hope this helps.

Did you use the "system monitor" ? as I told you in 1st answer ?

Also , copy-paste the command from here , do not write by hand.

These is a space between f and -

~$ df -Th

Thanks

HI,

The space made a big difference. Thanks. I found it in the command.

I'm having trouble mounting it to my desktop. Is it required to have it on the desktop? Is there a difference?

What should be the default setting.

Thanks for everything.

Brad
