Launch Menus are gone

Asked by Doug Sills

I have done 3 clean, new installs of Ubuntu 12.04 and after every install, there are no launch menus at all. I have tried everything listed to fix this problem and nothing brings them back except to reinstall 11.10. My opinion, Ubuntu continually gets slower and has more and more problems graphically with each new version.

What will repeatedly reinstalling actually achieve?? You are taking the data off, then putting the same data back on. So what is the point?

Does the system have a make and model?
What video chip do you use?
Is the system a desktop or a laptop?

It is a system I put together a few yrs ago, has an Intel Pentium 4, 2.20 GHz CPU, has an NVidia Graphics Card 3DForce 8200Xe and is a desktop model. The launch menus/side tool bar are present in 11.10, but with the 12.04 install, they are not there.

Did you try the Unity2D session?

I did not try the Unity 2D Session. After having tried 3 installs and having gone back to 11.10, which does work, am not sure I want to try another 12.04 Install. The reason for trying 3 Installs, I have seen glitches, Internet Bumps, problem with CD data cause a bum install, so I tried burning a new CD at a slower spped etc to make sure there were no glitches with the install.

Make sure you MD5 test the ISO you download too. Oneiric is still very supported. You could also try Xubuntu or Kubuntu or Lubuntu if you find Unity is giving you issues (or if you dislike Unity)

Well, guess this sort of solves my problem, but still don't have 12.04 running on this machine. Thanks for all the help.

Can you help with this problem?
