The main panel does see NO programs. Can't get to the Ubuntu Software center. Switch off suddenly.

Asked by Gabriela Zalewska

It started from the moment, when I installed Ubuntu a week ago. I use notebook, Asus Eee PC R101. The system was regularly (2 times a day or more) switching off (but without switching off and on the BIOS or Ubuntu, it was only loging me off) and then just after another "switch on" there was a note from the system that there was an error and that I should look for a help at the Ubuntu support site. I've ignored that 'cause I've hoped it will just pass further on. But it's still like that.

Few days ago the main panel started showing no programs installed. Even mozilla or system programs have disappeared from the panel although I can still use those programs. Also I can't get to the software center. I have no idea why.

It happened once that Ubuntu has changed the settings of layout and has been comunicating, that layout is the same as it was, so i couldn't even change it. Luckily restarting the system helped to fix the problem, but it still seems strange.

Whole system seems to work worse and worse. I have no idea what to do. Please, help.

My Ubuntu is 12.04. and I'm not sure what do you mean by the "Desktop Environment".

I don't know how to log into Unity2D.

Log off, then click the Ubuntu logo next to your username and select the 2D session, then log in

Is it exactly the sam, any differences?? If you can give more details in replies rather than "doesn't work" or similar, it helps make things faster.

With the Unity2D a layout is slightly different, but the problem stay the same - main panel still doesn't see programs.

Can you help with this problem?
