by wandering around I turned off the launcher on desk top how do I re-instate

I am a new UBUNTU addict but in my wandering around to discover I turned off the launcher on the desktop and despite exhaustive searching cannot discover the way to reinstate it

If you mean the Unity launcher you probably just hid it. You can reset the settings with:

unity --reset

press ctrl + alt + t to get terminal and then type what actionparsnip say...

any thanks all sorted now the problem was trying to get terminal
launched when you did not have the launcher!But the ctl - alt - t was
the answer. Must find out all the other magic hot keys !
