12.04 no system try
I've been having problems with all things related to the system tray since upgrading to 12.4.
Now, I get a no system tray error.
Is there a way to restore it?

Thank you Sam. I did the following which ran uneventfully:
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
sudo reboot
When I ran unity --reset I got the following (errors) and it stopped:
dave@home:~$ unity --reset

I went ahead and installed and used dconf-tools and it did solve all my system tray issues. Thanks so much.
Still a bit curious about the:
(compiz:3538): GConf-CRITICAL **: gconf_client_
and
ERROR 2012-05-20 19:46:05 unity.glib-gobject <unknown>:0 g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
that I got with the unity --reset but the issue that I asked about is solved.

The 'ii' of #1 wasn't a cmd, it indicates if a package is installed and is part of 'dpkg'.
Please try for example:
dpkg -l indicator* | grep ii
The 'unity --reset' output is interesting as it displays bamf.. errors.
Just query the exact wording to find some hints about crypted (at least for a user) messages.
For example bug 979946 shows similar outputs as yours.
Another one there.
