Is it possible to make the unity launcher even worse?

Asked by Andrew Golding

I just upgraded to 12.04 LTS.

Dear god, why would anyone ever think it was a good idea to leave the rather wretched-looking launcher open as default behavior?
I see there's now configuration options for it, but not the one thing I would actually want to configure (where I want the launcher to sit on the screen).

I was wondering if you could make it even worse than it is now, which is worse than it was in 11.10.

Really, can you please make this thing worse?

Is there any way the launcher could perhaps stab me in the eyes with my own display?

Why does default mean anything to you, because it shouldn't at all. I hate Firefox, Thunderbird, Evince and LibreOffice to name but a few but I don't go on forums and write worthless rants like this. Just make the OS as you want it, it's one of the founding ideologies of Linux. You don't HAVE to use Unity. SImple isn't it, and so obvious. Why did you feel the need to write this when it doesn't actually achieve anything......

Do you actually have a genuine question or is this post as pointless as I am pointing out?

I was legitimately wondering if the behvarior could be made worse or if the launcher has hit rock bottom. If the launcher hasn't hit rock bottom I was planning on jumping ship to a different DM that sucks less.

Unity is a DE (desktop environment) or WM (window manager). It's a shell and replaces gnome-panel from the previous releases.

The 'DM' is lightdm and is nothing to do with Unity. You can use lightdm and log into an LXDE session.

You can alternatively use this:
http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2012/03/gnome-classic-in-ubuntu-12-04-its-like-nothing-ever-changed/

And switch the default shell. Yes Unity can be made worse, you can change all the colours to black and change all the shortcut keys to the same key and ignore all warnings. You can make any DE worse, why ask such a pointless question?

Seems to me that Unity has actually been IMPROVED since 11.10. First off, yes, you can still auto-hide it, contrary to what some people have said around the Net. Second, the menu search feature is pretty cool. Third, Compiz actually WORKS, unlike 11.10. I added Cairo Dock and set the Unity Launcher to auto-hide, and it's been pretty usable so far. I'll use it for a few days, and if I decide I don't want it, then I'll go back to my heavily customized Gnome 3. (Yes, stock Gnome 3 sucks, but with a few tweaks and customizations, it's actually pretty sweet.)

Use Xubuntu. It's snappy, it's clean and most of all, it isn't unity :)

Can this be marked as 'Invalid' it's just a childish rant as far as I can see. To answer the actual question. "yes" it can be made worse. Set every colour to black and the OS will be completely unusable.

Can you help with this problem?
